Google VS. Privacy

http://www.google.com/policies/
Google is going to be throwing away 60 different privacy policies across the board and replacing them with just one, shortened policy. This policy is said to be a lot easier to read and comprehend. It's going to cover several different features and applications in order to reflect their "desire to create one beautifully simple and intuitive experience across Google."
One major change in the policy is: " It makes clear, that if you have a Google account and are signed in, we may combine information you've provided from one service with information from other services." While Google claims this will help them treat you as a "single user" this could invade important areas of privacy. One of the main sources they'll be getting their information is from email. Google will be reading each and every one of YOUR emails that goes through the gmail service. Is this really how they should go about gathering information?

Type of work: Music

Have you ever wondered why each restaurant sings their own version of happy birthday to their customers? Maybe you thought they just wanted to put a fun, cool, new twist on the classic song? While that may be the reason for each and every restaurant singing their own special, very diverse tune, it's not why they don't sing the classic version. Bobby Bandleader VS. Johnny Singstealer
Bobby Bandleader owns a local restaurant called Bobby's Bistro. He has always loved music. His restaurant is known as a musical place. He and his staff periodically break out into song at unplanned times. They are especially known for celebrationg birthdays. Any customer that comes in on their birthday  is serenaded by Mr. Bandlander and his staff. Instead of singing the plain old Happy Birthday song, Bobby made his own verison. It was still very similar to the original tune by Johnny Singstealer. It took him twenty years to perfect his Bistro Birthday melody and it's become popular among locals; they come to the restaurant on their birthdays specifically to hear the tune. When Mr. Johnny Stingsealer caught word of the famous birthday events, he was furious. Bobby hadn't been paying for any copyright licensing fees to Johnny for the right to use a variaiton of his song. Johnny filed a lawsuit against Bandleader in hopes of receiving $1 Million for the past and present infringement. An injunction against further of Bobby's performances of "Happy Birthday To You" was also put in place until he received proper licensing. To save court costs Bobby and Johnny settled this by themselves. Bobby paid up. Right now the license is owned by Warner Music group. They regularly charge $30,000 to use the song for a profit. Even girl scouts have been given warning that singing it at campouts can result in a fine.

Internet Safety

Internet safety is being smart when using websites on the interent such as facebook and twitter and also not contributing to cyberbullying. The three things that are most important to internet safety are: never give out personal information, (such as phone numbers, addresses, ages or last names), never talk to anyone that you don't know, and never plan to meet up with anyone ou may have met online. To be more safe online I think we should set privacy settings on our facebooks so that only your friends can view your profile and never go onto public web chat sites.

Feed Readers

On Wednesday I used bloglines.com. Trying to follow blogs and sites was hard and confusing. I liked google reader best because it was easier to follow a site. I could also just search a catagory that I find interesting and sites that relate to that catagory are suggested to me. I can also view all of the feed from blogs and websites that I'm subscribed to all at once
